How to Look Refreshed on Very Little Sleep

August 19, 2015

Summer is vacation season for most, but for me it’s time to grind! At this point in August, I am totally shot! Between waking up at (gasp!) 2:30 am for a morning show and staying out late for so many events, my body takes a beating. Exhaustion is all over my face.

Here’s what I do to make my skin look as refreshed as possible on little sleep:

1. Drink plenty of water.

I’ve written before about how important water is for your overall wellbeing. In this hot, humid weather it’s even more important to hydrate! You’ll notice a huge difference in your skin if you add more water (I drink a gallon a day) to your diet.

2. Eat clean.

What you put inside reflects on your outside. Cut back on sugar and salt to reduce that bloat!

3. Wash off the day’s makeup & moisturize before bed.

Don’t forget your under-eye cream. I’m guilty of falling asleep with my make-up on … so I keep make-up removing wipes handy so I can do a quick clean even when I am really exhausted.

4. Mist me!

I use a spring water or mineral water facial spray throughout the day to refresh my tired skin (and wake me up a bit too!).

5. Strategic makeup.

If you’re stressed and not getting enough sleep, you might find that your skin will break out or seem irritated. Resist the urge to pile on foundation and cover-up… keep it light with a tinted moisturizer (with an SPF)! I also like to use reflective highlighters/luminizers to brighten up underneath my eyes on tired days.

6. Get rid of puffy eyes.

I like to do it the old fashioned way. I use cucumber slices, chilled (and drained) chamomile tea bags, and my ice mask (use a soft, thin paper towel as a little buffer). Ten minutes on. (Try not to fall asleep with it on like I do!)

7. Get moving.

If you have an extra few minutes, getting the blood flowing with a few stretches or yoga poses can help reduce puffiness and dark circles.

8. Smile.

It will give you an instant face lift, you’ll immediately feel better- plus it distracts from tired eyes!

Obviously, the best way to look refreshed is to go to bed and get the right amount of sleep! Sweet dreams!
