The hottest colors for this season shine- literally. Add a twinkle to your toes, some fun to your fingers and go for the glitz. Glitter has never been so glam. Karie L. Frost, executive editor of Beauty Etc. and fashion/ beauty editor for Nailpro, says to pick a glitter-flecked polish with a dark, vamp-y vibe. You’ll go Gaga for Frost’s favorite –Deborah Lippmann’s Bad Romance. It’s a sheer black with chunks of magenta glitter that apply randomly to the nail bed—so, it’s a subtle effect that’s perfect for slight glitter-phobes. For those who aren’t scared of a little sparkle, Frost says Orly’s Lunar Eclipse delivers a deep azure with an intense pinked sheen. Check out Orly’s entire Fall 2010 collection “Cosmic FX” . Frost calls the shimmer combos completely otherworldly.
If you are not a glitter gal, spring’s “greige” (gray-beige blend) is back but with a new twist. Frost says fall’s finest take a cue from the military trend and have a slight khaki undertone. Forget camaflouge and think attention! Shades like Chanel Le Vernis Khaki Vert and Essie Sew Psyched will definitely make you stand out. NYC celebrity manicurist Elle says Jennifer Lopez has been spotted wearing Chanel’s latest hues in khaki, gold and rust reverse. Speaking of metallics, Elle says her fashion forward clients are also going gunmetal. Gossip Girl’s Jessica Zhor takes the trend to this months cover of Nylon magazine.
Plums also pack a punch and purples pop this season. This color purple is provocative, so shrinking violets need not apply. Frost says to keep an eye out for everything from gorgeous grape (Butter London Marrow) to smoky lavender (Zoya Kelly).

Remember, the perfect polish has a moody feel and bad girl edge. MAC has once again come up with the magic potion for fall. They nail all of the season’s trends and bring the ultimate and original bad girls to life this week with the debut of their Venomous Villains Collection. Get ready to cross over to the darkside—but before you do Frost reminds us to wear a base coat to protect nails from staining and to stock up on SpaRitual Cuti-Clean & Stain Remover which keeps your cuticles from looking scary and also brightens your natural nail in case you forgot to wear a base coat. Then, bring out your inner Cruella de Vil, Snow White’s Evil Queen, Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent and The Princess and the Frog’s Dr. Facilier. I can’t wait to get my fingers on Maleficent’s crazy purples and metallic foil duo-chrome glittery polishes appropriately named Formidable!, Mean & Green, and Bad Fairy. Bad has never been so good!
So… pick your poison, be the fairest one of all, and get lacquered up this fall!

The first is Elene Cassis. She was born and raised in Smithtown. I was shocked when she told me she originally wanted to be a reporter and interned at News 12 Long Island. She ended up studying fashion at Parsons and recently moved back home to Long Island to open an office for her label. She started her company last June and this week was her fashion week debut. Pretty amazing. Although she seemed totally calm to me, she admitted she was nervous. I really liked her collection of dresses. I could see myself wearing all of them.
I also had the opportunity to go backstage at the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation show and meet Ross Menuez of Northport. Ross is already known for his graphic designs. I am a fan of his scarves! This year he was awarded $25,000 from the prestigious Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation to put on his first Fashion Week show. Ross said it was his first time in the tents. When I asked him what he is most excited about he told me that he just couldn’t wait to sleep, because he had been working with no rest on his fall line since November. It was an awesome show and attracted a lot of big names like Kate Walsh, Adrienne Bailon, Molly Sims, Kelly Rutherford, AnnaLynne McCord. Some of the hottest designers (Zac Posen for example) have won the Ecco Domani award in the past, so I am hoping that Ross has the same kind of success.

Of course, I had to ask about those world famous kicks. Synthia was kind enough to give me a little lesson. I never realized that although their arms are hooked behind each other’s back, they are actually never touching. It’s tough to kick without holding on!(I tried…. not too successfully!) They make it look so easy! Having nice long legs doesn’t hurt either… When you see them kick, it appears that they are all the same height, but they’re not. To be a Rockette, Miss Cheryl was correct, you do have to be between 5′6 and 5′10 and a half. To create the illusion that they are all the same height on stage, they place the tallest women in the center with Rockettes on each side becoming progressively shorter. Then they all kick eye high. They kick hundreds of times in every show! No wonder why they are all in such good shape! I was winded after 6!
That’s one of my favorites too! I also love the Living Nativity and was lucky to meet Sally, Ted, and Sarah the camels! They get walked (with a pooper scooper of course) around Radio City. They are huge stars–everyone wanted to take their photo! They actually have their own air conditioned dressing room inside of Radio City.
I cried. I clapped. I even danced in my seat. Just natural reactions.
