Belmont Stakes Chic – Be Race Day Ready for This Weekend

If you know me, then you already know I LOVE the Belmont Stakes – the excitement of the races, my uncanny ability to choose the winning horse and, of course, the fashion! I’ve noticed that in recent years, Belmont has transitioned into a more high fashion event. We’re not quite the Kentucky Derby, with the “Southern belle” style, but we’ve adopted an edgy, New York City chic style. With American Pharaoh’s chase for the Triple Crown, you can expect attendees to up their style game.

Not sure what to wear? Here are some tips to help you choose the right outfit!

Footwear: Similar to my guide to the Hamptons, if you’re attending the Belmont Stakes I highly suggest wearing wedges, like Steve Madden’s Korkey, or a cute sandal, such as Aldo’s Viviere! The day could involve a lot of walking, from the parking lot to your viewing destination. If you’re attending a Belmont Party, this widens your fashion options. I love a nude-colored heel, like the Treasure High-Heel Basic Pump from BCBGeneration that is sure to match any outfit!

Color: Are you supporting a particular horse? Find out the colors of the horse’s race silks and wear those colors! I am rooting for American Pharaoh because I want to see history made here in my hometown!  So, I will be wearing turquoise and yellow.

Hats: Now for my favorite accessory, the hats! My friend, Christine (Christine A. Moore, Official Hat Designer of the Breeders’ Cup & Official Milliner of Ms. Racing Queen), is an expert in race day wear. She says that trends for Belmont this year are definitely higher fashion and sleek with a New York attitude. Dressy is in and styles will be less Southern belle than the other races. She also mentioned that beach hats are out, structure and trim are in. Need a hat for this weekend? Check out her trunk show at the Garden City Hotel with the Red Door Spa on Thursday, June 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Friday, June 5th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A portion of the sales from these two events will benefit the Belmont Child Care Association.
